Private professional confidential counselling for adults and young people in St.Neots and the surrounding villages of Cambridgeshire.
I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I have experience of working with people from all walks of life and age groups . I have a background in education and social care having previously worked in teaching, social work and as a secondary school counsellor supporting students and staff. I offer friendly professional support to help you through difficult or troubling times.
It's good to talk, being really heard and understood is where professional counselling can I believe really make a difference to your day to day health and wellbeing. I am kind, caring and friendly with the goal of offering you a space where you can explore your feelings in safety and confidence without the fear of judgement. Whether it is to 'get things off your chest' or simply talk about what is troubling you, it could be a past event or something that happened yesterday.
HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP YOU
Support That Makes a Difference
I am an integrative practitioner which means I draw on a number of theoretical models to meet your individual needs. My core way of working is Person-Centred, so first and foremost I will talk to you about what you would like to gain from counselling and support you to achieve your personal goals. I also offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to address specific problems which may benefit from a more structured approach. Other approaches include solution focused brief therapy, transactional analysis and I am comfortable working through the medium of art and crafts. This can be particularly therapeutic for younger people and for those who find it easier to express themselves through the medium of art
I have extensive experience of working with children and young people as a secondary school counsellor supporting young people in particular to overcome the ever growing pressures of school life; exam nerves, stress, anxiety and panic .I am also keen to support women whose mental health has been affected by the menopause.

" I had no expectations, having not engaged in counselling before, I knew immediately during the free initial telephone consultation that Melanie would be an excellent therapist for me. Melanie's blend of wide experience and flexible approach suited me well adapting her approach according to my mood, level of tiredness or immediate need.It was my hour of the week to reflect on what I needed and how to positively move forward with my life."
Melanie's patient acceptance of me has enabled me to share painful experiences which I have never confided to anyone else and given me 'permission' to treat myself more kindly and considerately than I ever felt possible before. I have now found the right path for my life"
Melanie' s gentle approach helped my 16 year old daughter recover from her horrendous experience of bullying and we are very grateful.
I would warmly recommend Melanie for anyone who needs help managing anxiety. Melanie helped me to manage my fear of flying something which I had tried many times before to overcome giving me the support and much needed confidence I needed to successfully manage a nine hour flight . I now have a practical list of things I can do to reduce and manage my panic.
